Pulse Exhibits Innovative Components for Hearing Instruments at EUHA in Leipzig, Germany

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pulse, a Technitrol Company (NYSE:TNL), a worldwide leader in electronic component and subassembly design and manufacturing, will showcase the companys latest developments in microphones, receivers, telecoils, and electromechanical components for hearing instruments at this years International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians (EUHA). The conference is being held at the Congress Center Leipzig in Germany from October 15-17, 2008. Pulse sales and R&D representatives will be available at booth #DZ-07 in Hall 2.

Among the latest innovations Pulse will exhibit:

  • an innovative way for adjusting hearing aid volume, the DCU Scroller
  • the worlds smallest dual receivers, the 4000 Series
  • a tactile switch available for hearing instruments, the PB 100 Click
  • the 8800 Microphone Series with an improved power supply rejection ratio

The DCU Scroller is a high-quality component that provides a simple and discreet method for adjusting hearing aid volume. The wearer can change the volume of the digital control unit almost unnoticed using a linear scroll. Its body diameter of just 3.8mm (0.15 in.) makes it small enough to be used for both behind-the-ear (BTE) and in-the-ear (ITE) hearing instruments. According to Morten Wagner, Pulse product line manager, Electromechanical Components, The dramatically reduced size fits well with the new slim and small BTEs, while for ITE instruments, the DCU Scroller is ideal because of its significantly more discreet linear activation mode.

At just 26.5mm3 (0.297 x 0.106 x 0.077 in.), Pulses 4000 Series receivers are the smallest dual receivers in the world. The series excels in low vibration that enables higher gain and output levels in many receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) and completely-in-the-canal (CIC) systems. "With our 4000 Series receivers, Pulse continues its innovation to extend the capabilities of hearing instruments, said Tinus van de Wouw, product marketing manager, Pulse Advanced Acoustics Division.

Pulses push-button PB 100 Click, at a diameter of only 1.9mm (0.075 in.), is the smallest tactile switch available for hearing instruments. It has an added detent function that makes the hearing aid user feel a discreet click when the bottom is pressed. This is accomplished without compromising the clicks quality. The PB 100 Click is intended for ITE and BTE instruments where space is at a premium. The PB 100 has successfully been on the market for more than five years, said Wagner. Now, its improved tactile feedback offers designers a simple and effective way to increase user satisfaction with the instrument.

The 8800 Microphone Series now features an improved power-supply rejection ratio along with better ultrasound suppression, improved sensitivity, and less noise compared to a standard microphone. "The 8800 Microphone Series is part of the industry standard 8000 package intended for hearing instruments and communication equipment. It's a step forward in microphones and underscores our commitment to bringing innovative devices into this market," van de Wouw emphasized.

Besides its new products, visitors to the Pulse booth can also see, hear, feel, and receive information about Pulses total wax and moist protection system, the C-BarrierTM. The C-Barrier can be easily cleaned and replaced and increases the life expectancy of hearing instruments. It comes in a specially designed tape-and-reel packaging for optimized production processes at hearing instrument manufacturers and in an easy-to-use dispensing box of four sets for the end user.
