Charlene Dackerman, senior vice president of human resources for Bridgepoint Education, Inc. has been named San Diego's 2009 Human Resources Professional of the Year.

The award was presented to Dackerman on June 18 at an event hosted by the San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ) at the Mission Valley Doubletree Hotel.

This was the second annual San Diego HR Professional of the Year Award ceremony, held to recognize the region's most outstanding HR professionals in 2008, as nominated by their own employees and clients. Honorees are selected in categories based on company size and focus, including nonprofit, government agency, private company and public company. Dackerman was one of 17 San Diego professionals to be honored and the only one in the large private business category, for which Bridgepoint qualified prior to becoming a public company in April 2009.

"I am honored to receive this recognition, and it would not have been possible without my exceptional human resources team," said Dackerman.

Dackerman joined Bridgepoint Education in September 2004. In her executive leadership role, she is responsible for supervising and coordinating all human resources functions for Bridgepoint Education and its two academic institutions: Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, and University of the Rockies in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dackerman has spent more than 20 years working in management for the higher education industry. Her work has garnered several notable recognitions, including a "finalist" designation in last year's SDBJ's San Diego HR Professional of the Year Award competition.

A member of the Society for Human Resource Management at both the local and national levels, Dackerman also supports Junior Achievement and the Make a Wish Foundation, and regularly participates in events to benefit breast cancer and leukemia research.
